Absolutely love it! I'm just starting out and its been a huge help, especially with the different fingerings for "each" chord, some are easier, and sometimes others just sound better for the song. Thanks!

<b>Hello Ukulele Friends,</b> We've just set up this list to hear some opinions and get some discussion going. You can use this message list as a guestbook, to start a discussion, ask questions or whatever. We also like to hear your opinion about the chordfinder and our plans to make a <b>ukulele CD-rom</b>. We're currently working on this CD that is going to contain the chordfinder itself with add-ons like songs that you can play along, edit your own songs etc. We invite you to tell us your wishes!

Can't tell you how great it is to finally locate a chord finder that handles the baritone uke. I've got other various charts but some of the odd chords never sounded 'right', yours has corrected several of these. Great work!!

Hi, I just discovered the chord finder. It's great! I only have one question. One of the yellow buttons says m7+5, but when you push it, it identifies the chord as a m7-5. Is it really +5 or -5?

Congratulations on an outstanding page. I teach ukulele and I feel sure my students would be interested in a CD with some play along songs IF the tones matched perfectly for each string. For Example: The A string in your sound files for the tenor tuning is acually 1/2 step lower or G#. This is true for all four strings. I hope this is correctable for I don't think many people would want to retune every time they use your program. Keep the excellent work.

Hi, I love the idea of your chord finder, but alas, am unable to get it to make any sound. I have an iMac computer and downloaded the necessary program to get the site to work, but nothing happens when I click on a note. Any advice? I have a tenor uke that I'm just learning to play. Any advice on where else to go for help? I need all I can get. Thanks!

I think this chord finder is an awsome tool! My only frustration is that it is not in tune. I've tested it against my ukulele pitch pipe, and my "E" tuning fork. The notes are all off slightly. Is there any way to fix this?

Excellent site. Would it be possible to include some strumming techniques for different style of music (ex. Hawaiin, bluegrass, etc.) I know this has a big impact on the uke sound, but have lost all my references to these techniques. Thanks again!

A note from the webmaster: I know I should have done this before, but better late than never. I don't know how the tunes got off pitch in the first place but they just did. They have all been repitched now and should be much better to standard (a: 440 Hz). I also exported the sounds at better quality, so the chordfinder has gained a few kilobytes, but sounds a lot better. Enjoy!

Your site is excellent! Concise, visually appealing, very useful and fun! I like the idea of a CD containing the chord finder etc. However, if you decide not to go through with it; how about making the utility downloadable, perhaps with a check for latest update feature or links to the main site etc. Keep up the good work.

Maybe I'm not at the right place,but... Mum and Dad are in Papeete for 3 month,(I live in France)and I asked them to come back with a good and "cheap" ukulele.I don't want a tourist's one and I don't need a collectible one.I don't find tahitian's links so I try here.I'm glad to found all those chords and tunings.Contact me if you have any infos about tahitian uke Thanks a lot.Pascal

Hi: Really interesting site. It took me a little while to realize that as I repeat clicked on a chord name, it showed it in different inversions (I'm not all that dumb, so maybe you should have a little commentary to go with the great "live" fingering info - but I don't need it now). Anyway, thanks for all the effort you must have put into it, and I will be back! Regards, Dave Goodrich (San Antonio,TX)

Excellent site. The upgrade works. If you need more chord fingerings for the baritone uke--the ninth family of chords--contact me. All in all, excellent. It would be cool, if you can make it play a series of entered chords!

Stephen Cary
Thanks for the chord finder. I appreciate all the work you've put into the site, and I hate to criticize, but... Please consider repositioning the uke on your web page. Look in any chord book for any stringed instrument and you'll see the fretboard positioned VERTICALLY most of the time or sometimes positioned horizontally LEFT TO RIGHT (with the nut at the extreme left). What you won't see is a right to left orientation, which is what you've got on your website. The right to left set up makes learning chords much more difficult-- since a player must flip everything he sees-- than it needs to be. Thanks for listening, Stephen Cary

I really appreciate all you do in making this site so excellent. However, I cannot seem to get the exe file to work once I have downloaded the file. I use winzip and all of that but all I get is a quick flash on the monitor of a black background and nothing else. Can you help?

Absolutely brilliant! A very useful website for a change. A great concept well executed. However, I would have to concur with Stephen Cary below that it would be even more useful if the uke could be turned 180 degrees, as this would align the chord pattern with the one on my uke as I'm holding it. Sorry to look a gift horse in the mouth. I really appreciate what you've done. I play a variety of instruments, but I've just fallen in love with the sweetest sounding uke I've ever heard. You wouldn't believe it, I got it off the dump! A battered old thing, but when I saw the inlaid mother-of-pearl, and quality woods I realised it was once a quality instument. After some amatuer restore work it did not dissapoint. Now I know why some people refer to their ukes as "soul-mates".

I downloaded successfully but When I double click the desktop icon I'm told that I cannot open the file. I do not have WinZip. Do I need it to open the file??

Hello Fellow Uksters: While converting guitar tabs for The Beatles' "Fool on the Hill" to uke, I have encountered a Dm+5. This site's chordfinder doesn't show me how to shape it. How does one play this chord on the uke? Thanks!

WOW!!!! I just started on the ukelele since a friend of mines let me use her ukelele to play around with. Believe or not, I am hooked on learning more. So far doing ok and my goal is to get better so I can start slack key later. This is what I was looking for because I had a hard time trying to just tune the thing. Great job on this website..I just got lucky finding it. You should link this to main hawaiian pages..just a suggestion for easier looking. Thanks for your help.

Absolutely fantastic!!! I picked up ukulele almost exactly a month ago, and I haven't even needed to buy a book yet. I have been using online information exclusively up to this point, and I have always had my questions answered (so far at least). This chordfinder has been the MOST important find for me -- it has made my study possible! It would be just a little easier to use if the ukulele were facing in the oposite direction. Mahalo!!! I have been having SO much fun, and YOU have made it all possible!

I think a chord finder is all well and good, but sitting down and doing the math is a far better way to become familiar with the fretboard, learn your intervals, and brush up on harmonic theory in general.
November 4, 2002

People in my uke group like this site. I'll leave a vote for leaving the uke orientation the way it is - it's what you see when you're playing with a friend. The mental switch is the same one that's required when you're watching someone across from you teach a dance step.
November 4, 2002
Wendy
I want to add to what I said about my vote to not flip the uke image. On the Beatles site (http://4rmj.com/rick/beatlesite/index.html), they originally had the uke with the nut to the left, but the chords were mirror image instead of what you'd see in a chart. I see they've changed them all now to the way this site shows them. To me, it was the obvious correction.

Wow!!! Thanks! Being new to the ukulele, I have found your site quite helpful -- especially the feature you have that plays the sounds for me. I NEED that. You know, sometimes you say "Gee, am I doing this right? Am I making a mistake?" In addition, though, it would be helpful if you were to include the finger numbers on each chord to help new folks like me out! Aloha!!!

Being a long term guitar player,I never thought to the Uke.When I bought the Beatles Anthology tapes and saw George playing the uke,I had minor stirrings. But when I read several articles about how much he loved the uke,and how his uke playing was used on his last CD,I decided to buy one.I have not done so yet.I want to get a soprano, tenor, and baritone(not all at once).I read that the bari was tuned the same way as the first 4 strings of a guitars' standard tuning. I want to get an all wood uke with tuning gears.I can't decide which uke to get first.I'm a little leary of the soprano only because the frets seem too close together for my big fingers.Any thoughts?

I've really enjoyed your old version (on my work computer). I'm having trouble with your new version, downloading it at home. Is it possible to get your older version? When I try to install the new one, I seem to solve one problem and another arises. Now I seem to need carbonlib but can't get it thru micromedia as directed when I click on your icon, even through I've installed shockwave.

Thank you for providing this service. Most of the uke tunes that I play are basic 3 chord songs. But sometimes the sheet music will throw a delightful odd ball at me. And the alternate fingerings for the same chord are a big help. Thanks again, Larry

Hello ukulelefriend, Since a long time I have not been watching teh ukulelesite but I am so pleased that everybody is happy with the chordfinder. We are starting now to make play along songs for our friends and neighbours. We want to have all uke friends united and there for we start a meeting every month in Rotterdam, Holland. We will keep in contact with you all about the songs we are gonna play. you will find the on the website within 1 or 2 month. We really want to make the ukulele popular because it is such an easy, odd and cheap instrument. Everybody can learn it, that's why we love it. Today we motivated a 10 year old kid to ask his parents to buy one. I gave him mine till the moment he has one for his own. So we are happy! That's what I wanted to tell you! eveline and your webmaster Marcel koekje.

Hello all, I've just added some functionality to the play along song. You can now play/pause the song, click in the timeline at the bottom to go to a certain part of the song. Turn on the 'loop' function to play the current part over and over again (to practise). Click on any of the chords in the chordsequence to jump within a part. This should all make practising a lot easier. The only drawback is that you have to wait till the song is completely loaded before you can start. Good luck. If you have any trouble just let me know directly through email.

Ukulele made me realize that there were more people around me where you can bundle your powers with. only one ukulele sounds horrible, but try listening to ten! Also I overwon my social problems; I don't have to talk anymore with my friends, having deep conversations. Now we just play ukulele, drink beer and be happy. When I found my ukulele, I found myself, and I was happy.

what can I say about the Ukelele that hasn't already been said? did you know that Paul McCartney & George Harrison would often bring Ukeleles on planes with them. George, When flying alone, would bring a second Ukelele just in case anyone else on the plane could play. . . apparently Mr. McCartney is carrying on the tradition. So never fly first class without your Uke. . . . Cheers.

i enjoyed the voicings very much - except one thing: a "Major" chord needs the big "7" in its voicing. For example: the tones of "C major" are c-e-g-b (and not only " c-e-g" which is a simple "C" triad chord)
